Meet Zoe Grant - our Community Organiser
My name is Zoe and I began working at JRS as a Community Organiser at the start of 2020. I have always admired how JRS works to support and accompany people seeking asylum, refugees and migrants in vulnerable situations on all levels. From JRS directly supporting people in the community to doing advocacy on a national level. I was thrilled when I could join the team and contribute to the amazing work being done daily.
My role includes helping to start Catholic refugee action groups across Sydney. In this role I support parishes and communities in their work advocating for and assisting people seeking asylum. It’s been incredible to see so many parishes and communities put their faith into action with their passion and determination to be part of the change. I have always been inspired by how kind, resilient, caring and insightful the people that we serve are. They have gone through unimaginable challenges yet somehow still manage to be grateful and hopeful for the future.
I have been passionate about advocating for refugee rights and social justice since doing human rights subjects during university while I was completing my Bachelor of Applied Psychology.
Since then, I have enjoyed being able to do a variety of roles in this area. These have included, working at ChilOut advocating for children in immigration detention and coordinating a refugee youth ambassador program, working at Settlement Services International where I ran a community hub at a school supporting refugee and migrant families and I was the Social Justice and Youth Coordinator at Vinnies.
