Our Team
Holla David - JRS School Engagement Officer
At JRS my role involves organising and running the refugee education Program within schools. If you are looking for a workshop, presentation or excursion that supports your school’s faith-in-action program for students and teachers please do get in touch. I would love to support.
I hold a bachelor degree in Law and Theology from the Australian Catholic University and I am really passionate about Immigration Law, particularly the history of Australian Immigration Law and its influence on current humanitarian policies. In the words of Sadako Ogato when we realise ‘refugees are not born but created by states, individuals and groups’ we will be more likely to create means to accompany, serve and advocate for those who are impacted by such circumstances. I think we’ll do well by our neighbours if we as a community focus on what we can do and that is the purpose. Our school engagement program helps students and teachers realise the vastitude of their power and influence in the refugee sector.
Prior to working for JRS, I worked for other organisations including Multicultural Youth Affairs Network (MYAN), Sydwest Multicultural Services and Legal Aid NSW. Working for these organisations has greatly influenced my desire to teach and empower the community through education. In order to take action, we first need to learn and filter the noise.
I am highly privileged to be working with amazing teachers and students who are passionate about refugees and individuals seeking asylum in Australia. Particularly, teachers who are eager to engage and challenge students to think beyond their immediate worldview.
