Home for Christmas: A JRS Australia Christmas Appeal 2024
02 December 2024
Dear friends,
As we approach the festive season, most of us will be looking forward to being Home for Christmas.
Home – where we feel safe, we are surrounded by loved ones, and we can indulge in the peace, rest and joy the season brings.
For many refugees and people seeking asylum, it was this dream of finding a new home that brought them to our shores. And yet, so many of the people we serve have not been able to find a safe home in Australia.
In fact, “home” can feel so fragile and often heartbreakingly out of reach for the people we serve – many of whom will be spending yet another Christmas separated from their families.
After all these years, will they ever be able to call Australia home?
The people we serve have endured and continue to endure ongoing separation from their loved ones, and uncertainty about their future here. In the face of this injustice, they demonstrate incredible resilience and courage.
People seeking asylum drive our hope for a future where their families can be together again, at home, here in Australia.
It is this brave and powerful hope that inspires all of us in our mission.
At JRS Australia, it is our hope to be a home away from home for refugees and people seeking asylum.
This Christmas, we invite you to join us in making this hope a reality.
JRS: A Place to Call Home this Christmas.
At JRS Australia, we provide essential frontline services to families and individuals seeking asylum, including emergency relief services, employment assistance, and access to a Foodbank for essential groceries and personal items.
We also have our award-winning Finding Safety Project, which provides specialised casework to women on temporary visas who have experienced gender-based violence. The Project empowers women to heal, build community, and gain financial freedom so they can create a safe future for themselves and their children.
With your support, we are also able to offer a one-of-a-kind Leadership Program for people with lived expertise to uplift their voices, advocate for themselves and educate school, parish and community groups about the issues facing refugees and people seeking asylum.
You make this possible.
You make JRS a home away from home – and you make Australia a more welcoming, inclusive and safe place for refugees and people seeking asylum.
Your donation, no matter how small, makes a big difference.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing solidarity with refugees and people seeking asylum.
From our family to yours,
The Team at JRS Australia
