Stories of Hope
When people with lived experience are supported to lead, communities change.
Across JRS Australia, refugees and people seeking asylum are not only rebuilding their own lives, they are strengthening communities, creating opportunities for others, and helping shape a more welcoming and inclusive society.

Setting every child up for success!
For many families seeking asylum, the start of the school year can bring financial stress rather than excitement. Thanks to the generosity of JRS supporters, 80 families received backpacks filled with essential school supplies through our Back-to-School Drive, helping children begin the year feeling prepared, included and confident. One parent shared, “My son got so excited that he can’t wait to use them at kindergarten tomorrow!” Beyond easing the cost of uniforms and classroom essentials, your support helped create a sense of belonging and possibility for children taking their next steps in education.

Women's Space: A Home Away from Home
When Alma first came to JRS Australia's Women’s Space, she had nowhere safe to go. For months, she spent her days moving between parks and libraries before returning home each night. At the Women’s Space, she found something different: a place to rest, connect and begin healing. Over time, she joined workshops, learned new skills and started to believe in a future shaped by possibility rather than fear. “The impact of the Women’s Space is found in these quiet but powerful moments,” says Sara Muzamil, who leads the program. Your support helps create these moments every day, providing women seeking safety with a place of belonging, dignity and hope.
