JRS Australia Launches Employer Guide to Support Inclusive Hiring During National Skills Week

To mark National Skills Week 2025, Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) Australia has launched a new Employer Guide for Working with People Seeking Asylum and Refugees.

Employer GuideThe Guide is a practical resource to support employers in creating safe, fair, and sustainable job opportunities.

People seeking asylum and refugees in Australia bring valuable qualifications, work experience, and strong motivation to contribute.

However, they continue to face structural barriers to employment, including visa restrictions, non-recognition of overseas skills, limited access to job search resources, and lack of local networks.

“Our employment program currently works with over 150 people seeking work across a range of industries, from hospitality, warehousing, and construction to aged care, administration, and finance,” said Tamana Mirzada, Employment Program Manager at JRS Australia.

“We also work closely with employers who want to create opportunities but may need more education to do so confidently and fairly.”

The Guide outlines practical steps for employers, including how to understand visas, improve recruitment and onboarding processes, and partner with JRS Australia to connect with job-ready candidates.

It also highlights the benefits of hiring people from refugee backgrounds, including high retention, strong work ethic, and valuable cultural and linguistic knowledge.

JRS Australia welcomes new partnerships with employers who share a commitment to workplace equity, and want to contribute to a more diverse and inclusive Australia.
